Setup is generally a matter of running the downloaded setup file and following the on-screen prompts. A more detailed description of the setup process follows:
UserTime comes packaged ready to install as a Windows installer package file. If you downloaded UserTime from the Internet the installer files will be packed inside a self extracting archive file to make the file as small as possible for downloading purposes. When you run the self extracting archive file it will extract the appropriate Windows Installer files into a folder on your computer. (The default location is c:\program files\UserTime\Install but you can change this when you run the setup). Once the Installer files have been extracted the Windows installer should run. If it doesn't run, or if you have extracted the files manually, them you need to run Utime.msi this will install UserTime on your computer.
There are two types of setup file for UserTime. They are generally named UserTimeFull.exe and UserTimeXP.exe. Both files contain the same software, but the full install file is a lot bigger because it contains additional support files including Windows Installer files and Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) updates. Most new computers will already have the additional components installed so they will only require the UserTimeXP installation. Windows 2000 and Windows XP have these components from new. If you have any problems running the small install file then you should download and install the Full Install.
UserTime is designed to run most efficiently on Windows XP or Windows 2000. We have included an activity monitoring component which allows it to run on Windows 98, but it will not run as efficiently on this operating system.
Most of our testing has been carried out using Windows XP and Windows 2000. We have tested the software on Windows 98 SE and some testing has been carried out on Windows ME. We have not tested the software on earlier versions of Windows 98 or Windows 95. While it may be possible to use the software on these platforms with the appropriate components installed, this is not a supported configuration.
