Main UserTime Screen

The main UserTime screen shows information on the counters that are running and the user that is logged in. Other UserTime features are available from the menus on this screen.

Counters

UserTime has three main counters that show statistics about the current user.  The indicator in the bottom left corner of the counter is red when the counter has stopped (paused) and green when the counter is running.

Elapsed time selector

The counters can be set to show different elapsed times by selecting one of the options from the elapsed time drop-down selector.

The options available are "since startup", "today" and this week. The total time and active time counters will show the selected elapsed time. The default week starting day is Monday so if "this week " is selected the counters will show the elapsed time since 12:00 am on Monday. You can change the default start day to any day of the week from the options screen.

If you select "since startup" the counters will display the time the program has been running. If you have enabled the option to run the program when you log on, then the counters will show time since the user logged on to the computer.

Total running time

This counter shows the total elapsed time. The actual time displayed on this counter depends on the selection you chose for Elapsed time. This counter will always keep counting regardless of whether you are active on the computer or not.

NOTE: If you use "fast user switching" in Windows XP to switch to another user without logging off then this counter will continue to count because even though your profile is not the current one, you are still logged in. This counter will stop when you log off.

Total time

This counter shows the total time you have been active since the program started. Activity is defined as mouse or keyboard movement.

Active time

This counter behaves the same as the total time counter except it will pause counting when you are not actively using the computer. The elapsed time this counter displays is determined by the selection you make on the elapsed time selector.

Custom Counter

The custom counter is like a stopwatch. You can use the custom counter to record anything you want. It can be started, stopped and reset using the control buttons. If you select the "only count active time" check box then the custom counter will pause when you stop using the mouse or keyboard.

Project name

The project name is an optional description of the project you are timing. If you enter a project name then any time recorded by the custom counter is assigned to that project. If you shut down UserTime and then start it up again, the custom timer will be restored to the state it was in when you closed.

If the custom counter is running and you have specified a project name then the tool-tip that shows when you hover the mouse over the UserTime icon in the Notification Area (system tray) will show the project name and the elapsed custom time. This makes it easy to quickly view the time on the custom timer without

Logged In As

The time the current Windows® user logged in is displayed at top of the screen. To record active time for additional users you need to create new users from the Windows® control panel. This panel also displays the current computer name. All time recorded is tagged with the user name and computer name. When you view reports, you can select which user or computer to view.
